Editorial Guidelines
How we research, test, and review every product on MavenLus.
Our Mission
MavenLus exists to help you make confident purchasing decisions. We combine hands-on product testing with deep research to deliver reviews you can trust. Every recommendation we make is backed by real-world experience — not spec sheets or press releases.
Our Review Process
1. Research & Selection
Before testing begins, our team researches the product category extensively. We identify the most popular products, emerging options, and reader requests. We consider price range, brand reputation, feature sets, and market gaps to determine which products deserve a full review.
2. Acquisition
We purchase the majority of products we review at retail price, using our own funds. When a manufacturer provides a review unit, we clearly disclose this in the review. Regardless of how we obtain a product, our evaluation process remains identical.
3. Hands-On Testing
Every product undergoes real-world testing in the conditions it’s designed for. A kitchen appliance gets tested in our kitchen. Outdoor gear gets taken outside. We establish category-specific testing protocols that evaluate:
- Performance — Does it do what it claims?
- Build Quality — How well is it made? Will it last?
- Ease of Use — Is it intuitive? Does the learning curve justify the payoff?
- Value — Is the price justified by what you get?
- Comparison — How does it stack up against alternatives?
4. Writing & Scoring
Our reviews are written by the person who tested the product. Scores are assigned on a 1–10 scale:
- 9.0–10 — Exceptional. Best in class.
- 8.0–8.9 — Excellent. Highly recommended.
- 7.0–7.9 — Good. Solid choice with minor drawbacks.
- 6.0–6.9 — Decent. Works but has notable compromises.
- Below 6.0 — Not recommended. Significant issues.
5. Updates
We revisit and update reviews when manufacturers release significant updates, when prices change meaningfully, or when new competitors emerge that change our recommendation. Updated reviews are marked with the revision date.
What We Don’t Do
- We don’t accept payment for positive reviews.
- We don’t let affiliate relationships influence our scores or recommendations.
- We don’t publish reviews based solely on manufacturer claims or press materials.
- We don’t remove negative reviews at a manufacturer’s request.
